WhY Didn'T He LikE HeR BacK?!?!

This post is going to stray from the traditional ones I write, as it is about a show I loved SO much as a kid. It aired on the Disney channel and was called, drumroll please... The Torkelsons! I think the reason I loved it so much was because of how well it depicted the feel of small town, country life. I love the opening song on it. Its message is sweet.

Its main character was Dorothy Jane (played by Olivia Burnette), who talked to the "Man in the Moon" every night while sitting in the bay window of her room. Her innocence and sincere nature made her a lovable, relatable character, who I admired.

In the show, Dorothy Jane fell for an incredibly handsome guy named Riley Roberts ( played by Michael Landes), who I still think is GORGEOUS to this day. You're wondering what he looks like, aren't you? Well don't you worry your little heart out! Here's a picture to feed the curiosity bug you're dying to munch on:

In the show, as soon as Riley Roberts (a high school senior) moved into Dorothy Jane's small Oklahoma town, she instantly fell for him. This brings me to the point of this entire post. Dorothy Jane, a bright, intelligent, and beautiful girl told Riley that she had feelings for him at one point in the show. Though she was younger than him (i.e. she was 14 or 15), she had the maturity of a high school senior or perhaps, someone even older than that. Riley Roberts never reciprocated the feelings that she had for him... ever. There are certain things I wish I could change in my life. Among these things are choices I made, mistakes that took place, and shows/movies that ended wrong. Haha! I wish I could make an alternate universe where the events of this show would go in an entirely different direction. Additional changes that would be made would include the following: I would change Freaks and Geeks by adding a ton more seasons to its majestic self; the ending of My Best Friend's Wedding would feature Jules and Michael tying the knot; and Tom would not be sad at the end of 500 Days of Summer because Summer would love him like a love song baby! (Is the Selena Gomez song pushing it?! I couldn't help myself)!  These changes would do the trick. If said changes were made, all would be right in my world.

I know I'm silly for even writing this blog post, but I just had to vent my frustrations out into the blogisphere. I have been watching The Torkelsons on Youtube a lot lately and I came across an episode of it that rehashed all of these feelings I once felt years ago when good old Riley Roberts didn't like Dorothy Jane. I'll never understand why he didn't recognize what a great thing he had in front of him, literally across the street from his home. I know that this story line of him not liking her back is realistic, but it will never cease to break my heart. It's that typical love triangle depicted in movies and television shows all the time- she likes him, but he doesn't know she exists. He likes the pretty blond cheerleader in the high school. This "realistic" story garbage needs to be hurled into the trash can. I don't watch TV or movies to see real life. I watch them to see the "happily ever after" and the invisible girl get the guy she's loved for years.

Enough ranting. Here is The Torkelsons episode I watched, which served as the inspiration for this post. You can feel the heartache Dorothy Jane feels as she realizes that she is not, nor will ever be Riley's love interest. Bummer...

Over and out my friends. My next post will feature my new and improved New Year's Resolutions for 2012! Get excited!
